Many of us may have had some experience with or of homeopathy or come across someone who underwent a homeopathic treatment. Questions regarding this alternative therapy surface in our minds but we rarely express them out of fear of sounding ill-informed.
Homeopathy was founded in the 18th century by a German scientist, Dr Samuel Hahnemann (photo). It is a safe, natural system of medicine that does not have side effects and is non-toxic. It is suitable for all age groups from new-born babies to older generations and is excellent during pregnancy and child-birth.
The basic philosophy of Homoeopathy is that “man is a combined trinity of mind, body and spirit and any disturbance or disease would create an imbalance in the whole system”. A homeopath is an interpreter of the language of disease, which the body expresses in the form of symptoms. What the patient’s system expresses through the symptoms has to be understood by the homeopath, following which an individualized homeopathic medicine is given, which brings about a cure.
What are homeopathic medicines?
The sources of homoeopathic medicines are mainly herbs and minerals. These, by a unique process of ‘succussion’ or ‘trituration’ release the dynamic energy inherent in the crude drug (herb or mineral). The medicines are extracted in alcohol and to avoid evaporation, are dispersed in pills made from the sugar of milk. This ensures an increased shelf life if stored and handled carefully. Since the medicines are derived from natural sources and are in their energized form, they are absolutely safe and non-toxic.
Nature Nurture’s Holistic Approach
However, medicines alone may not suffice to bringing about the cure and hence, a more holistic approach is needed. This includes addressing a patient’s exercise routine, diet and the use of other complementary therapies like massage, yoga, aromatherapy, etc.
